At Rhino River Lodge, bringing conservation to life is more than just a mission — it’s a way of being. Through our partnership with the Zululand Conservation Trust, we recently had the privilege of turning that vision into reality with a wild day out for local learners at Rhino River Lodge, welcoming 130 students for an unforgettable experience in the bush.
Over two days, we hosted Grade 7 pupils from Obani Primary, Manyoni Primary, Sensokuhle High, and Mandlakazi High. This immersive initiative allowed these young conservationists in the making to connect with nature in a meaningful way, guided by their teachers and experienced field guides. It was a powerful example of bringing conservation to life, as they learned about the vital role game reserves play in protecting wildlife and supporting local communities.
Each child received a WWF-sponsored wildlife identification booklet, available in both English and Zulu, to help them engage with and better understand the wildlife around them. The day included a picnic lunch of hot dogs and juice, all enjoyed while surrounded by the magic of the bush — a moment of joy, learning, and deep connection with the natural world.

To ensure every student had a meaningful and comfortable experience, the game drives were split over two days. This allowed us to avoid overloading vehicles and gave each group the chance to enjoy an authentic safari experience, complete with sightings of wildlife in their natural habitat and in-depth discussions about conservation and ecology.
At the heart of this initiative is a deep belief that the future of conservation lies in education. By opening the bush to young minds, we plant the seeds of passion, responsibility, and stewardship for the natural world. Seeing the excitement on the faces of these learners as they spotted their first zebra or listened to the calls of birds was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

We’re incredibly proud to have hosted these future leaders and grateful to the Zululand Conservation Trust, WWF, and the dedicated teachers and guides who made this experience possible.
This is the kind of impact that goes beyond one day — it’s a memory that lasts a lifetime, and a step toward a more sustainable future for both people and wildlife.
